Westminster Abbey was born in the middle of the Viking invasion and conquest. Edward the Confessor, King of Wessex, took the English throne in the early eleventh century.
The king built an abbey adjacent to the religious center of London that began to be called "West Minster", since, the first religious complex was located to the east of the city.
 
This is how Westminster Abbey is born , 1051, of pure English Gothic style. Edward died days after the inauguration and was buried in it.
In 1066, after the Battle of Hastings, William the Conqueror, is proclaimed king at Westminster Abbey and so it was with the consequent kings. As a curiosity, this tradition continues to this day.

Currently, the abbey is a place of worship and a must-see for all people who want to get to know London.  
Today, you can visit the abbey, it has a visiting schedule from Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
